January 11, 2013
Dear Member,

We want to keep you informed of the latest moves to attack your Second Amendment rights. These are trying times for those concerned with ensuring the preservation of freedom. We have provided a summary of commentary from the White House, including VP Biden’s anti-gun “Task Force,” as well as a quick look at some of the firearms related bills introduced so far.

The NFOA is standing up for your rights on the national level. We were invited and will be participating in a conference call with the White House this afternoon on strategies for preventing gun violence. Keep watching your inbox for more information.

If you would like to meet up with some other NFOA members and Directors, visit our booth at the Lincoln Gun Show , January 26th-27th, at the Lancaster Events Center, Lincoln NE. We will also be contributing to the Lincoln Women’s Expo going on at the same time and location. We will have raffle tickets available for a Spikes AR-15 lower receiver and will be signing up new members. Tickets will also be available at various other events and locations, such as the Ogalalla and Alliance Gun Shows, and you can purchase them online. Bring your friends and family out to the Lincoln Gun Show and sign them up for the NFOA!

You know as well as I do that the Second Amendment has little to do hunting or sport shooting, but is intended to provide a deterrent, and if necessary, a defense from tyranny. We will stay vigilante and keep working hard, along with other Coalition members , to ensure preservation of your Second Amendment Rights.

In Liberty,

“White House weighs broad gun-control agenda…”

So read a recent headline to a “Washington Post” article
which dispels any remaining doubt that current administrative proposals are limited to semi-automatic firearms. Noting that Obama is trying to recruit large gun retailers such as Wal Mart, the piece goes on to say:

“The White House is weighing a  far broader and more comprehensive approach to curbing the nation’s gun violence than simply reinstating an expired ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition, according to multiple people involved in the administration’s discussions.

“A working group led by Vice President Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.”

Hunters, concealed handgun permit-holders, and others who think this is just about so-called “assault weapons” can now wake up and smell the coffee: Obama is proposing nothing less than universal gun registration. And as we have seen in Britain, Australia and even the City of New York, registration is the necessary prelude to confiscation.

You need to tell friends and neighbors that this is no longer about ugly-looking black guns, but rather about the intent of federal police agencies to track and monitor the 40+% of the American public who have the audacity to own guns.

It isn’t about “assault weapons,” it isn’t even about gun control:This is now about preserving the very freedoms guaranteed you by the US Constitution and Bill of Rights.

As reward for your efforts to preserve freedom, incidentally, USA TODAY just branded you a “special interest” which is on the “ideological fringe.” Will you let them define freedom as “extremism?

Biden: Obama Considering Executive Orders
In a complete affront to the constitution, checks and balances, and the entire purpose of our representative republic, Biden indicated that President Obama is exploring executive orders  as a method of implementing more stringent gun control.

This announcement comes after Biden emerged from a “Task Force” intended to “curb gun violence.” A task force that included almost exclusively well-known gun grabbers such as AG Eric Holder and NY Mayor Bloomberg.

Yesterday, the Second Amendment Foundation attempted to gain an audience with the White House . Their request was promptly denied. The NRA emerged from a meeting with with the Biden Task Force and had this to say  :

“We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping     our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment. We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen.”

Shortly thereafter, Biden announed  that his Task Force was “reaching a consensus” on “gun safety.” I suppose it is easy to reach a consensus when you ignore everyone and anyone who does not agree with your unfounded opinions.

10 Gun-Related Bills Introduced….
… and more likely to follow. We will provide you with a basic rundown of the legislation proposed so far, but if you are looking for an easy way to contact your reps, vote in polls, and keep informed on legislative efforts, try POP/VOX.

Anti-Gun Bills:

H.R. 137 No private sales
H.R. 138 Retroactive magazine capacity limit of 10 rounds
H.R. 141 No private sales
H.R. 142 Only face to face ammo purchases from licensed dealers, reporting of bulk ammo purchases
H.R. 34 Implement federal purchase permits and de facto registration
H.R. 117 Federal license and registration for handguns
H.R. 65 Ban possession of a handgun for those under 21
H.R. 21 No private sales

Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA), author of the ineffective 1994 “Assault Weapons” Ban is still planning to introduce an even more Draconian and oppressive version of that bill within the next few weeks.  Read more about her new plan here.

There is some good news: Two different bills have been introduced to abolish Federal Gun Free Zones around Schools. A measure that would end the monopoly on lethal force that criminals currently have in those areas.

H.R. 35 Do away with Federal GFZs
H.R. 133 Repeal Federal Gun Free Schools Act
