question re: value of rifle
« on: November 01, 2013, 09:21:14 AM »
I have a hunting rifle I want to sell and would like to get an idea of what it's value is and what's the best way to sell it.  It's a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 3006; it has a 4X Leupold scope, which I guess doesn't add to its value so I'll probably take it off before I sell the rifle.  Based on the serial number (G2054444) it was made in '61, which I believe makes it worth something to collectors.  I'd put the condition at excellent.  Any ideas on what it's worth?

With not seeing and with the info you gave looks like $675 (98%), $900 (100%) you can add 10% if it has an aluminum butt plate.  This is form this years blue book.  Sell the scope separately.  A Super Grade Featherweight is considerably more.

The thing with rifles (or any other firearm) is they're worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

What I would do is get on Gunbroker and see what similar models are going for.  That should give you a good idea of a starting asking price.

Agree with M7025-06, when it comes to things like firearms and art price is driven by demand of product.  I was merely providing what is in reference books and what the stores will base any "offer" percentage they quote.

Looking at Gunbroker completed auctions, http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=364590105 recently sold, after being relisted multiple times. Sounds comparable, and actually right in line with Blue Book.

Gunbroker is probably your best bet, as it reaches the largest audience, and is sort of the de facto standard for online gun auctions, although there is also gunsamerica.com and gunauction.com.

The classified section here, midwestguntrader, armslist etc would also work if you're not wanting to ship, but you're not as likely to get the best price.
