Gunman, victim open fire in robbery

This article appeared Saturday on KETV's website. There's very little detail, but it appears the victim had a CHP and returned fire. I couldn't find anything about the incident on omaha.com. Anyone hear any more about what happened?

Disappointing, but not surprising, that the media did not say anything more about it. Ridiculous actually.

OMAHA, Neb. —A robber trying to get some cash Friday night was surprised when the victim pulled out a gun.

Police were called to 45th and Charles streets around 8 p.m.
Officers said the robber approached a man and woman in their car and demanded cash. The victim threw out his wallet and then chased the robber up the street, exchanging shots, police said.

No one was injured, but the robber got away.

The victim did have a gun permit.

Oh boy!  Just imagine the Zimmerman-esque trial that would ensue if there was a dead robber.

Not IMHO.  A prosecutor would attempt to paint the "victim" as the aggressor after the robbery was over...and possibly rightfully so.

Exactly....   As soon as the "victim" exited the car and gave chase, with gun drawn and fired, in the prosecutor's possible view, he became the aggressor. 

If you are robbed at gunpoint, in your place of business, once the perpetrator has turned and left the business and you give chase outside with your firearm, you have now become the aggressor.

I understand your point, but you are arguing against human nature.  You are safe but you did not win.  "They" will prey on someone again, maybe you.  I'm not arguing what is legal or responsible, but what is instinct.  Fight or flight.

They chose when and where to fight.  The DA might go for it, but we still have the right to a jury.

The LAST thing you want to depend on in this political environment is a jury.   Zimmerman was lucky.  The DOJ sent down agitators to create "protest" marches, etc.,  and then forced the State to go against Florida's "stand your ground" law and prosecute Zimmerman.  Add to that the tremendous amount of biased coverage (showing almost baby pictures of Martin while showing the meanest looking ones of Zimmerman they  could find, having "experts" convict him in the media, etc...)  But, the evidence didn't back up the claims of the State.    Recently, one juror, who wasn't able to make a case in the jury room is out in the media saying that "Zimmerman got away with murder".  Now, that is being used by the Anti-Constitution crowd to say "we  told you so", as if it were some kind of irrefutable proof of misdeed.

The odds are that if you don't pursue the perp will attack someone else, but you are not responsible for that.
