Lincoln City Libraries and City Parks

Other than a tax for city people, and a daytime homeless shelter, what need is there for a library these days? A search engine on the internet, has 100% replaced library's for many many years, for most people.
in 2012, the last copy of a Encyclopedia Britannica was printed, now only available in digital format. I bet trees are pleased.

Um, you could go there and get a book to read. They can actually be interesting.
GreyGeek:
I have a Kindle and it contains dozens of books, most of which I have read. I use it because while I want to read some books I have no desire to keep them. eBooks are considerably cheaper than hardcovers and most of the time cheaper than paperback. Yesterday, for example, I downloaded 15 eBooks from Amazon because my wife wanted to read them. I liked the fact that they cost $0.00 each! :) I also download and install important PDF's of documents and books, especially reference books.
Last night, in preparation for income taxes, I totaled my digital book purchases for 2013. It was over $240.
The big problem with a Kindle, and some books, is that the publisher, or Amazon, can reach into your Kindle and REMOVE a book! My son had this happen to him but so far it hasn't happened to me.
For most books. especially for science fiction and reference books, I prefer the paper editions. I've about read out the sci fi books at the Walt branch of Lincoln's public libraries. Nothing beats the smell of a freshly published book. Also, no batteries required and the publisher can't hijack them back.

"Walt" branch is my stompin' ground too, and the missus and I have piles of Lincoln library books on our bedside tables, as do our kids. It saddens me to see anyone saying - even if it was in jest - that the internet is a substitute for libraries.
It saddens me even more to think that kids are growing up with a tablet computer, Nintendo DS and a TV in their room, but don't possess a library card. (I don't know if that's "the norm" per se, but I certainly know of some kids that are being brought up like that.) As someone who frequently makes hiring decisions I look at a lot of resumes, and I will always-repeat-always throw a resume straight in the shredder if it contains any typos, or any poor or unclear writing. Three things that I'm looking for in any employee are creativity, attention to detail and communication skills, and I'm convinced that a key determinant of at least two of those attributes in adults is how voraciously they read as a child.
