Drop-in Barrel Conversions
« on: January 05, 2014, 11:37:44 PM »
On another post, Gary mentioned that he had converted a Glock 21 .45ACP to .400Corbon.   By using a drop-in conversion barrel, most likely.   He indicated his unhappiness with that effort.

Which brings up the issue of drop-in barrel conversions in general.

I've used a Lone Wolf .40S&W drop in barrel in my .357Sig and had some similar unhappy results, at first.   It wasn't just a matter of dropping in the conversion barrel and then banging happily away at the range.

I started w/155gr Truncated Point .40S&W BerrysBullets.   These are the jobbies that look like an ice-cream cone with the tip cut off.   Jam City.   Couldn't get those cartridges to feed at all.  Frustrating.

Went to .155gr Round Nose and Round Shoulder (flat meplat).    They cycle just fine.

Summary:   Bullet shape counts when dealing with conversion barrel feed problems.  (or any feed problem.)

Question:     Anyone else tried any of those drop-in conversion barrels on either of the above or different calibers??   How about brand.........Storm Lake any better than Lone Wolf, given the extra cost??

I revisited conversion barrels this year, after selling the Corbon years ago.

This go around, all has gone smoothly, so far.

The underlined ones are full Glocks, the others are barrels and slides when needed.   All are Glock, except as noted.

I am told dropping a 9mm Glock barrel in a Glock 23, does not work, but it works so far, on the range.  Not for EDC, but it works shooting paper targets.
