I was just on vacation in Florida and was considering buying a shotgun to go trap shooting with friends. Called a few local shops, and nope, they don't sell to anyone from Nebraska because they're "not familiar with NE's ATF laws;" having a NE CCW (I do). So I figured I'd try Walmart, since they have shops in Nebraska, so they should be willing to sell long guns to a resident of that state.
I called into the local Walmart, and asked about purchasing a shot gun and leaving the same day with it, since I have a CCW that is also recognized by Florida. I was told that there was a 3-day wait and a background check. I asked again about having to wait for a background check even though I have a CCW, and was told that even with any CCW, there would be a background check and 3-day wait.
I looked at Walmart and Walmart Corporate's websites and could not find any policies regarding their sale of firearms, so I called Corporate to verify. The woman I talked with said that Walmart's policy is that EVERYONE pays $5 and has a background check run on them, regardless of whether they have a CCW or not. Has anyone with a CCW been able to buy the gun and walk right out, or is this a new policy put in place to keep track of who purchases a firearm (and essentially works the same as registration)?
