shooter:
what is the best as far as operation? Im thinking of building a ar-15 SBR, what length barrel operates the best? I know everyone has there favorite, but looking for a dependable unit,

Here's some info from BCM on why they prefer 11.5 to 10.5.

I went with 11.5 just because it's a little easier on suppressor baffles.

David Hineline:
11.5" is easy to make the gas system work, 10" starts to get harder, below 10" it gets real hard.  Most manuf. spec their silencers to 10" or longer barrel for baffle erosion from the blast.

Tim McBride:
I like 12.5 but 11.5 runs well. Below that and you are getting into cycling issues.

My 11.5" Daniel Defense barrel is actually a little overgassed, but I'm sure that's a function of the gas port size.  I need to try out a heavier buffer.
