Lincoln Police are looking for the man who robbed a north Lincoln restaurant.

Just after midnight Friday night, Lincoln Police were called to the Sonic restaurant at N. 27th & Old Dairy Rd.

Police tell 10/11 News a man walked into the office area of store with what is described as a plastic gun with an orange tip. The man demanded cash.

After the store employees gave the thief an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect left on foot.

Police describe the robbery suspect as a white male, being in his 20's, anywhere from 5'7" to 6'2" tall. The suspect was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jean shorts with a bandana over his face.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lincoln Crimestoppers at 402-475-3600

It Does Not Matter How Dumb The Bad Guys Are, If The Good Guys Are Dumber

Some things to consider here....
1) Getting shot in the face/eyes by some of the newer air-soft guns is NOT going to be a pleasant experience and best to be avoided.
2) It is very easy to apply orange paint to a Glock .40 or other firearm of choice as an intentional distractor.
(there really are some unstable minds out there that would consider doing such a thing)
3) Employees not familiar with firearms probably did the right thing...openly calling THEM dumb for acting safe is not justified....in my opinion.

To a degree, you are absolutely 100% correct.

However, when are the sheep, going to start standing up to the wolves?  Seems if there was ever a time, it might be when the bad guy comes to terrorize good people with a toy gun.

I will post an open invitation for this guy to come rob me in my place of business.

I agree. First rule of self-defense is to avoid trouble.
There is no point to confrontation over money. Self-defense is limited to protecting "self".  (yea, there can be more than that, but is just off topic discussion).
In all honesty, an open challenge to attack is something that will be used against the rest of us trying to keep what is left of our (already limited) rights.  That sort of confidence suggests the need of educated consultation. Maybe just an indication of preparation, but poor judgement in choice of words.

Sadly, most will never stand up to the wolves because they believe what they are told... give the bad guy what he wants and he will take it and leave you alone, none the worse for wear.  It takes mental growth to grow out of the role of a sheep.  That growth is either internally motivated (I must protect myself and family and I've been naive...) or externally motivated (I'm not going to be a victim ever again).  There will always be way more sheep than sheepdogs.

I have a CHP class today.  In the afternoon session, what advice would you all have for my class, if they are attacked with what is a toy gun?

If they recognize it as a toy gun, they can only respond to that level of threat....but your class would have taught them that.

I'm more interested in hear what YOUR advice would be, you being a firearms instructor and all.

The fact that guy had a toy gun is almost irrelevant to the scenario.  We don't know if he was desperate, threatening, intoxicated, angry, violent whatever.....

Who's to say the guy wouldn't have gotten physically violent if they had gaffed him off over the toy gun?  Late night at a Sonic, it was probably some high school kids that just wanted to get home.  They probably handed over a couple hundred bucks and no one got hurt.  It sucks for the business owner and the insurance company, but there are much worse outcomes.

I'm not a professional firearms / CHP instructor, but isn't it kind of wacky to post an open "Bring it on, man!" message publicly for the world to see for all eternity?  Heaven forbid you do ever get involved in a violent altercation that some ruffian starts.  But should it happen, isn't this likely to worsen your case as portraying you as the one spoiling for a fight and looking for the opportunity to blow someone away?

Indeed.

It should also be noted that there are a LOT of large chain businesses whose policy regarding robbery is simple:  "Clerk, give them what they want, make a good witness to the police, and turn over the security camera video along with a good description using the height chart by the door.  Don't bother fighting or arguing, $50 isn't worth it."

Other people have made good comments about the fact that we know nothing about the surrounding circumstances, so I'll just go along with the other folks and wait to hear what Gary would do given his open invitation to criminals and his comments about standing up to the wolves.

This statement probably just made you the aggressor should anything happen at your place of business. Personally, I would have the thread deleted before you do get a visit from someone with a gun.

Most kids today have no idea if the gun is real or not, I would guess that if it was my son or daughter there, their face is worth much more than a couple hundred dollars. Why even think of taking a chance?

It seems many of you are assuming that a person who has already made the decision to commit a robbery will stop at that.

While waiting on Gary's answer, ponder this...

I think it was an inside job.  Perp description discrepancies, knowing when to hit the office for cash as opposed to registers, willingness to roll over for what they describe as a toy gun, all make me think someone in the office may have been involved.  Seem fishy to anyone else? ???

I'll come back and reply to this after Gary tells us what he would have done.
