Planning a 10.5" AR build (5.56/223).  Should I be concerned with twist rate?  I know you generally go by the ammo of which I mostly shoot 55gr FMJ.  What's a good self defense ammo in 5.56 or .223?

FarmerRick:
If you ever plan on shooting heavy bullets(69+ grains) then get the 1/7. Otherwise, a 1/9 twist barrel should be just fine.

gsd:
As far as SD ammo, I can't offer much as I have not done much research into the topic, but I have heard good things about Hornady Tap FPD.

bkoenig:
I just built an 11.5 and went with a 1:7 twist.  It handles the 55 grain just fine, but can also shoot heavier stuff.  I don't really see a reason to go with 1:9 when 1:7 or 1:8 will do everything that 1:9 will and more.

mustang5o:
Thanks for the information.  Seems most of what I'm finding is 1:9 but I'll keep looking until I ready to...ahem, pull the trigger.

I was thinking the same thing but it looks like they aren't making any right now.
