Here is the "ratings list" from last Joe's Crabby Shack circa 2/6/09.  There are only 2 changes in the roster, as noted and added comments in italics.


    1. Lavon Heidemann
    Has been fairly pro-gun. Voted for LB454, but also voted for LB97.

    2. Dave Pankonin
    NRA likes him, but voted for LB97

    3. NEW Scott Price (Kopplin)
    NRA says A, and he's a life member. Should be a PLUS, as Kopplin was firmly an anti.  Scott is very pro-2nd.

    4. Pete Pirsch
    Pirsch has made very strong statement supporting firearms. Willing to discuss legislation.

    5. NEW Heath Mello (Priester)
    Sen.-Elect Mello informs me that he got an A rating from the NRA. So it looks like D5 may be a PLUS for our side over the formerly anti-gun Preister. Thanks for the response, Sen.-Elect.

    Nelson has an NRA A rating

    7. NEW Jeremiah Nordquist (Synowiecki)
    Not sure here. He's endorsed by Synomiecki, who was good on guns and a Democrat. Nordquist's big crime issue is grafitti, so we'll have to watch this district. NRA also says A

    8. Tom White
    EDITED 2/5/09: Insiders say he is one of the biggest firearms threats in the statehouse. He, however, says he's a gunowner and 2A supporter. Through personal contact, he appears to support LB430. We will watch closely.

    9. Gwen Howard
    Anti gun. May be one of the more vocal without Chambers, Kruse, and Schimek around. Those who are familiar with the lawmaker tell me she's pretty unliked.

    10. Mike Friend
    Friend has been just that to gunnies. We like him.
Now: Bob Krist, unknown position on guns, heard he may be OK.

    11. NEW Brenda Council (Chambers)
    Insiders say she's the most dangerous anti in the statehouse.

    12. Steve Lathrop
    Still an unknown, but some of his work on Judiciary makes me think anti. Again, any help? 

    13. NEW Tanya Cook (Kruse)
    Not fully sure. She used to work for Council, so that doesn't bode well. Still, hard to be worse on guns than Kruse.  Anti-gun

    14. Tim Gay
    NRA said B. He was supposed be good on guns, but frankly has been quiet.

    15. NEW Charlie Janssen (Janssen)
    Ray Jannsen was a good friend. Charlie should be close to the tree, but we'll see.
    Janssen co-sponsored LB430, the pre-emption bill. Good on you, Charlie.

    16. Kent Rogert
    NRA C+, his political position answers are leaning anti. Could be better.

    17. NEW Robert Giese (Engel)
    No Web site. No response on political position. This could stink, as Engel was very good on guns. NRA says A. My favorite Class III hasn't had much interaction with Giese, so he remains a bit unknown.

    18. Scott Lautenbaugh
    Lautenbaugh is great on guns. He answers my questions and listens. Glad to have him back.

    19. Mike Flood
    Again, we like Mike!

    20. Brad Ashford
    RINO. Hasn't met a gun he hasn't wanted to ban. Term limits cannot come fast enough. Anti-gun legislation introduced in 2009. Mandatory sentences, increased fees.

    21. NEW Ken Haar,  (Hudkins)
    Neither candidate was lights out on the boomstick issue, but the unrated by the NRA Haar looks to have beaten the C rated Jeffers.

    22. Arnie Stuthman
    He's not my uncle, but he sure is an anti.

    Good on guns, and acts on issues. We likey. Introduced Shooting Range Protection Act. Good on you, Chris

    NRA B, and his NPAT answers are decent. Nothing yet to verify this.

    25. NEW Kathy Campbell (Raikes)
    Sen-elect Campbell writes to tell me that in general she supports more restrictive firearms laws. While I'm sorry to hear that's her position, I appreciate her openness and willing to talk. So, it looks like this seat is a PUSH and stays anti-gun.

    Anti until proven otherwise.

    27. NEW Colby Coash (Schimek)
    Yeah, buddy. Colby Coash has expressed bis pro-gun leanings in the past, so we're pretty happy to see him emerge from the close race. ANYTHING is better than the vehemently anti-gun DiAnna Schimek. Seriously. Biden? Yep, he'd be better. Count this as a definite PLUS in the gunny column.

    Most definitely a friend to firearms. In fact, he may be our new champion.

    Honestly, no idea. He leans pro, but is just maverick enough that you never know.

    No clue, as his background is healthcare. Again, Heineman endorsed. But the best sign is the New Nebraska Network HATES him. That's got to be good for us, which is hopeful as Aguilar was generally pro-gun. NRA says Gloor is an A

    37. NEW Galen Hadley (Joel Johnson)
    Academic... Opposes CCW. Says no need for checks for private sales. Looks anti, which is a PUSH as Johnson was firmly anti. His anti-ccw stance still earned a NRA B. Either he's better than I think or the NRA is getting loose with grades. We'll still watch.

    NRA A, says good things on record.

    39. NEW Beau McCoy (Pedersen)
    Through personal communication, supports CCW and guns. Lautenbaugh backs him, and we loves us some Scott around here. I'm calling this a PLUS as Pedersen was usually good on guns, but had wild streak sometimes. Pro-gun

    Says she's pro gun... votes anti. Signed on as co-sponsor of the the Shooting Range Protection Act, so she's got that going for her.

    Looks like we get a pretty solid gunnie to replace the pro-gun Erdman. While we'll miss Phil's interactions with Ernie, we think that Sen. Schliz will support our cause.
