Tactical Vests

Critter:
Halloween costume....that was a good one RobertH.  Well, right now I'm in the planning stages of building a gun range, along with that we will be adding a tactical course of some sort....like I said, still planning.  A little training in case the SHTF can't be a bad idea.  Anyone with gun range building experience is welcome to throw out ideas too.

RobertH:
Thanx im good for a joke once and awhile.  Im a simple civie so i am no expert in vests or anything tactical. Theres other members with better experience then me.  Ive had a couple of vests, but never wore them. Im just getting a battle belt together for carbine classes that i hope to take this summer.

In your case I would recommend a bare plate carrier without the plate. Pick up some pouches off of eBay and you an set it up how you want, instead of vein locked into the format that you get with a pre made vest.

I understand that some vests are modular, but a basic plate carrier from condor and some pouches might run you $100.

 this one is pretty good,

look how the mags set in the pouches, they are lower than most, I use 40 round P mags, so they stick out just right, but have to use longer cord to hold them in,

You might want to consider something less conspicuous. Military style gear is fun to play around with but is it really practical?

Take what happened in New Orleans for example. Do you think you could have thrown on a plate carrier, slung your AR and walked or driven out? Im betting that within a couple hundred yards you would have been stopped by a patrol. Avoiding confrontation is always the best option and being as inconspicuous as possible is a good first step.

If I have to bug out, or even shelter in place, Im not grabbing my Tactical vest. I prefer gear that is lower profile. I have a Sneaky Bag that I have used for a number of tactical rifle classes. It carries everything a vest does, has a dump pouch, room for an extra pistol and doesn't draw any unwanted attention. If you need body armor there are plenty of good low profile vests to be had on Ebay. I have a Mayflower Low Profile carrier that works very well for armor that you can wear under your clothes.

Sneaky Bags also have some really good low profile rifle cases as well.
