ENPS Pro-Am match, March 30th...
« on: March 17, 2014, 02:29:39 PM »
ENPS will be holding our first Pro-Am match of the year on Sunday, March 30th.  (And I think we will be having three of these this year...)

Pro-Am is a seriously fun time---targets are ALL falling steel, set up in an action-pistol USPSA format.

...with a par time.

So, you come up to the stage, and you see how many targets you can knock down within that par time.  Your score is how many fall.  (MUST fall to count for score.  No calibrations.)  Your match score is the total of all stages put together.

There are two divisions:  Open, and Everyone Else.  And everyone can only load ten rounds per magazine.  (10 plus one in the chamber for loaded starts.)

We'll have four stages like that, and one tie-breaker stage where there is an array of steel, and you keep shooting until you knock them all down, and your time is recorded.  This stage ONLY matters if you have the same score (from falling steel) as another competitor---in case of ties, the fastest run on the tie-breaker stage wins. It is a blast to shoot!

Here's an example of what stages might be like:

As always, setup starts at 7:15am and registration closes at 8:40am.  We'll have a new shooter/safety briefing at 8:40, then the regular shooter's meeting at 9.  After that, lots of banging noises.

Cost:  $15.

Come out, help set up stages, and have a good time shooting.  See you there!

Looks like we won't have to call it on account of cold weather, yeah ;D

That'll be nice, won't it?  Currently looking at a high of around 74....

Reactive steel all day long!  It is going to be a good time---we already have 39 people squadded online (and I think we have several others registered who haven't squadded themselves yet) so it'll be a nice big match.

Remember---these stages have par times, so even if we have a ton of shooters, we won't be out there all day.  After a certain amount of time shooting on a stage, we are going to cut you off.  :)

See you there!

The main thing is to demonstrate improvement each time.

I thought the main thing was to have fun!

Improvement is good too, of course---we don't want to stagnate, and we definitely don't want to get worse---but this is a game with friends, and we always want to make sure we are having fun.

Nope.  No time for fun.  This is serious business.  Ask anyone who has squadded with me, I do not laugh or joke or do any of that gabby stuff.  No sir, no time for that.  :)

But if I feel like I'm continuing to improve, it's more fun.

What a great day for a match!  Weather was gorgeous (minus a few wind issues here and there), tons of steel out to shoot (130 pieces of knock-down steel available in the match!), and LOTS of people showing up to shoot.

82 shooters, to be exact.

I believe that outside of the Zombie match, that is the largest number of shooters we've ever had at a local match.  (So you are all coming back for the USPSA match next Sunday, right?  ;D )

Good to see you all there--and match results have been calculated, and will be posted soon.  (We'll make another post with the link when it happens.)

Again---it was great to see everyone at the match!

I'll jump at least 10-15 places ahead if I remember to load my mags, bring a holster, buy some extra mags, practice... And the list goes on.

Wonder if we had any IDPA types try this? ???

What's an "IDPA type"?

I'd like to shoot everything but Louisville is a drive for me.  Too many irons in the fire these days.

IDPA type, the half of the shooters at the March 22 classifier who have never shot USPSA matches. :D

I only have a 45 minute drive to ENGC, wish it was closer ( maybe when I retire)

Here's one look at the Pro-Am.  (Please ignore all the missed shots!)

Our next Pro-Am match isn't until the end of June, so you are going to have to make do with USPSA, Multigun, Steel Challenge, and the Man-vs-Man steel match until then.  :)

Here's one look at the Pro-Am.

Wow.  I can't add.  That should have been 23 points on stage 2.  Whoops.

On stage 5, I had a total of 5 full-diameter hits in or above the calibration zone on those two steel that just wouldn't fall.  (Three on one, and two on the other.)  I was so frustrated that they wouldn't fall, I almost forgot to run back to home plate and take that last shot!
