For you BIG BORE fans
« on: April 16, 2014, 10:24:06 AM »
some guy on Omaha Gun Trader facebook page is selling his 50BMG

where in the world can you even shoot that?
I'm not a member of any ranges, just shoot at a buddies property and his 300 win mag is about as much as his back stop can take.

If I had access to a range well beyond 1,000 yards I would probably own a .50 or a .338 Lapua.  As it is, 1,000 is about as far as I can get.

For the first 35 years of my life, I lived in various parts of the country over in S.E. Iowa. I grew up with nothing but miles of "range". I screwed up and moved to Texas before moving here to Omaha. Now my range is about 75 feet and costs to play by the half hour.

Oh well, I wouldn't be here to harass you all if I hadn't made that first move :)

In my circle of gun buddies outside of the NFOA, I'm usually known as the idiot who will shoot anything once.

The s&w 500 strong hand only took a toll on me lol.
It is highly likely the above post may offend you. I'm fine with that.

Magnums no, that was Koenig. I shot it the same day, just the 2 3/4 shells.

i think, the only place around here that allows shottys is Big Shots and you have to use slugs.  so thats not quite magnums, we'd have to find some private land.

I, too, shot a .500 Smith & Howitzer one handed. I used both hands for the rest of the cylinder.

First shot my teeth chattered so hard I thought I chipped them. Clenched them together for the next shot - same result. Held my mouth open for the last few. That was a bit better, but not much.

the new game and parks / Lincoln range is built to shoot up to a 50.  Not that it will be on the list of calibers, who knows.

oh yea, i forgot.  we'll have to plan a date.

i shot a S&W 460 a few times.  wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be.  but was super loud and concussive inside Thunder Alley.

I shot a .454 Casull once.  Then I shot an airweight .357 right after that.  The .357 was way more unpleasant to shoot.  I also once shot a guy's .450 Nitro Express elephant gun that he was sighting in for a safari.  It was stout but easier to shoot than a lightweight .30-06.  Grip / stock design and weight have about as much to do with felt recoil as the cartridge itself.

And Rob's Super Shorty with 3" magnums is....interesting.

BTW, there is a new steel patterning board out there, and I think it has a maximum shot size restriction for safety purposes.  I think there's a sign by it.

i shot a guns 500 S&W, super heavy gun hard to hold on down range target steady while building the courage to pull the trigger.
it was stout, no doubt.

I'm sure like with all my guns, when my game of choice is down my sights, the recoil is not felt.
