Guess this video once again proves the adage that Using Wood for Fuel Warms You Twice.

Now.... Here's what I don't get.
Namely, why chop up ALL the wood into kindling pieces?  This Young Fellow is working way, way too hard.  Could be in watching NFL on TV.  Eating ham sandwiches.   Sippin' beer.

Heck, you can burn the Big Stuff just like it is.  Save the chopping.

Here's How:
If.....you use an andiron set, then a Three-Log SFG Lazy Guy fire burns beautifully and for a long time.   Like...most all night.

Basically, the way it works is to use the mutual reflectance of the Big Logs and a bottom coal bed fire to keep the whole works hot and burning.

First, you build a fire under the andirons.   Out of the kindling pieces, like that Mauler Guy is chopping up.  Can even start the heavier kindling on top of the andirons.   Let it fall through and make coals.

Anyhow, when a good, fiery red bed of coals is on the bottom of the fireplace below the andirons, then the Three Logs can be added.   Log pyramid.   Two bottom logs, then last one on top.  Over the bed of coals.  Quickly, of course.   No 3rd degree burns, please.

In due time, the bottom logs will start to burn, then wick flames between them and on up around both sides of the top log.  Once the Big Logs catch, then mutual heating will keep them burning nicely.

Might have to add some kindling to the bottom coal bed every so often.   Tell the Woman to do that when she gets up to go to the bathroom, whatever.

So for you Who Run Out of Breath Easily, the above process sure beats chopping All the wood.

Just thinkin'.

PS = You'll want to sleep in front of the fire.  The chimney draft draws all the heat up the chimney.   Rest of the house is freezing.  Only warm place is in front of the fire.  Sure glad it's Spring.
