took fishing trip yesterday
« on: May 23, 2014, 08:06:18 AM »
Well actually the trip started Wed 05/21
We drove to Rock Rapids Iowa (5 miles from Minnesota) to my grandparents, he has 2 ponds with great fishing, we hit those up until dark Wednesday, caught a couple walleye over 2 lbs, and some perch and crappie.
I know those aren't HUGE walleye, but those are gun fish to catch.

Thursday we head out with the plan of going to Okaboji but fishing reports from other locals stated that water was still too cold, so we hit up Silver Lake instead, its a decent sized shallow lake. Water temps started at 55 degrees and got up to 60 by the end of our day.
We trolled only, caught I'd guess 7-10 northern, biggest only 5 lbs, most around 2 lbs.
1 drum, 7 walleye one was pushing 5 lbs, beautiful fish, and a couple good sized perch.

This was the first time I had ever fished silver lake, but what a blast, and I'm due for a fish fry!

not a lot of pictures taken.
walleye was taken from pond, catch and relese only. we had no net and using lite line, I had to lay down on dock and reach in and grab him out of the water to land him. This is a pretty normal catch for these farm ponds we fished Wednesday evening

northern looks small in picture but was 5lbs, slimly SOB

and the lake from the boat.

a buddy caught the biggest walleye of the day and I don't have a picture of it on my phone, but I have one of its fillets in my freezer!

silver lake, it you troll it might be worth a day trip

Walleye.....

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

I took my daughter out to Holmes lake in Lincoln last night.  I caught a small bass, a bluegill, and a couple of crappie.  She ALMOST caught her first ever fish, but lost it before she could land it.  It was too bad, she was so excited when she started reeling it in.  That makes 4 fish in a row she's lost...she doesn't have the knack of setting the hook yet.
