12 yr old/accidentally shot in Lincoln...CHP?

Wonder if the guy had a CHP?    Not that it changes anything...it's still an unfortunate incident.   But, what a image this portrays for CHP holders.

Unfortunate thing to have happen. 

He also needs to get his hand gun fixed or get a new one.  It shouldn't discharge when dropped on the ground like that.

If it was a LEO would it be any different. God knows they have had 1000s of accidental shooting.

Oh wait it would.The 13yr . old girl would of been a suspected drug smuggler and a AK would been found on her.

10-11 reported it was a gun sale to take place.

10-11 reported the gun did not fall out of a pocket, but was removed to show the buyer, and he fumbled the gun, and it fell.

Many guns, including the 1911 will discharge when drop and landing just right.

Many have what is referred to as a rebounding firing pin.

Without knowing what make and model it is impossible to say what the cause could be for sure.

It sounds like this tragedy could of been prevented by not trying to sell and pass around a loaded gun.

10/11 news is saying...

According to Captain Genelle Moore, a man had gone to a party with friends and had brought a gun along intending to sell it to someone else at the party.

Moore said several witness statements confirm when the man pulled the gun from his pocket, he fumbled it and when it hit the floor it fired. The bullet struck the girl in the shoulder. Moore did not know why the weapon was loaded at the time.

If he wasn't a CHP holder then isn't it a safe assumption he'd have been cited for carrying a concealed weapon illegally? There's no reference to that.

I am really curious to know what kind of gun it was. Human beings do occasionally drop things, or trip and fall, etc. I prefer a gun that is designed to at least be "safer".

As with many accidents, you can identify several issues that may not have been a good idea, and if even one of the issues had been eliminated by good sense, the whole chain of events would have been broken.

My understanding is that a real Colt 1911 would have to fall from a substantial height before the floating firing pin could strike the primer with enough force to set it off. Waist height to floor (about three feet) shouldn't be enough.

On the other hand, it's a serious danger with a Colt Single Action Army, or a faithful replica, if you don't know enough to leave the hammer over an empty chamber.

The real story might be that he had his finger on the trigger as he pulled the gun out of his pants. Too bad the bullet hit an innocent kid instead of him.

Caliber is reported to be a .380

That could mean it is a quality forearm like a W PPK, or a piece of junk like a Jennings. 

Until more details come out (may never know the real story) we are left only knowing a little girl was only injured, not killed.    That is the good news in this story.  So often, when an ND happens, in a party or gathering, some innocent life is sniffed out. 

Now what were friends, go to battle over paying the hospital and doctor bills.  This could eclipse 100 grand.
