The LEO Whacked Bambi
« on: July 13, 2014, 06:15:38 PM »
About 1:15pm today I was driving south on Hwy 75 through Bellevue on the way down to Bellevue Rod & Gun Club to shoot in the WASP-B trapshooting league.

Just north of Capehart there was an LEO (local, not State Trooper) and his squad car in the median of the highway.   And a rather large doe deer laying by the squad car with her head up off the ground.   She appeared to have been hit earlier by a car.

As I went by, the LEO pulled his service weapon (most likely Glock 40, but not sure) and....... Shot the deer in the body.   Sorta center mass.  (LEO clearly not a deer hunter.)

Deer jerked up in sort of a curling shape like a fish, went down flat.   LEO reholstered.

Timing for viewing this particular event was exactly right on.

Point of all this info?     I'm not sure.  Just don't tell PETA they shoot Bambi in Bellevue.

Coulda called DEER RESCUE 911, I guess.

I saw the car hit it.  Happened at 12:40 and did a number on the car.  It was the black one parked on the side of 75.  Really glad it was him and not me as I was right behind him on my cycle.  Would've been REAL bad for me.

I used to work with a guy, a big time deer hunter. He told me he was driving down I-80 when he came upon an accident between a vehicle and a deer, the deer was flailing around in the road with broken legs, so he stops and gets out a hunting knife and proceeds to cut the deer's throat. By now a crowd had gathered and witnessed the deer being dispatched. Screams and panic hit, a lady with small children all screaming and crying. This causes him to panic so he throws the knife in the back of the truck and speeds off.

Some people believe they get their meat from the grocery store so all is good.

ive watched the ole' cuts its throat and let it bleed out thing go horribly wrong before. I would not advise it, however if its the only option its the only option.

and to anti hunters, why did the deer cross the road?

because there are too many deer and they are searching for food and water and we need to control the deer population, and legal hunts are the best way to do this while generating revenue for the state

damn truth always getting in the way.

That reminds me of why the chicken crossed the road? To show the deer that it can be done.

Deer stories thread.  I have one.

Late one evening at our country home, I hear a loud crash at our driveway.  Going outside,  I see a vehicle in the ditch and a moose sized dear in the orher ditch.    The vehicle drives off to get a hunting rifle.   I approached the deer, the largest one I had ever seen, who was still alive with a torn up front leg.

I watched the deer get up and limp into the forest by my house.   I follow it in, to determine if I needed to put the deer down.   About the time I figure the deer should be let go, a bunch of hunters show up with 4 rifles that I can see.

The deer and I had walked south, and for some reason, the hunters walked east and north.    They never walked our way.   It was interesting watching this deer up close, watching these hunters.  He layed down on the ground, coiled into a loose circle like a lap dog on a cold night.  He layed in a way, he was watching their movments, which was pretty easy with lights and lasers.   When the hunters gave up and went back to their truck, the deer stood up, and walked east and disappeared into a cornfield.

While we waited out the hunters, I enjoyed my time with the deer.  Big big eyes.  You could tell he was no dumb animal.  He had been around the block a few times.

As he walked off, kind of figure I gained a friend.    I have often wondered if he died later of his wounds.

I had a moose run past me as a teen, and this deer would have posted numbers on a scale close to that moose
