PRT: Defensive Tactics, Sept 12-13
« on: August 24, 2014, 09:54:28 PM »
Precision Response Training will be holding a Defensive Tactics class on September 12th and 13th.  (Friday night, 6-9pm, Saturday all day from 8:30am until roughly 4pm or so.)

On Friday night, we'll be in the classroom working with unloaded guns (with barrel blockers or practice barrels) on various techniques in dryfire (and why those techniques are important), and on Saturday we'll be at the range all day using those techniques, and discussing effective tactics.

Minor terminology note:  "tactics" refers to the specific choices made (and carried out) during a self-defense situation.  (Well, at any time, actually, but we'll be concentrating on self-defense situations.)  The tactics you choose obviously depend on the skills that you have---but specific skills (techniques in which you are competent) are NOT tactics.

Skills are not choices---otherwise, you'll find yourself falling into the "hey, I've got a hammer, so everything is a nail" mode of thinking.

While we may be teaching you some gun handling skills that you don't currently have, this class's primary focus is on effective tactics.  As such, we'll setting up generalized situations and learning how to use the basic self-defense principles to discuss appropriate choices, then acting on those choices.

Let me put this another way:  This class isn't about learning to shoot on the move or point shoot or any other specific shooting method, and calling that "tactical training."  Again, while we may be showing you a couple of new gun handling techniques (or perhaps not, depending on your skillset), the point of the class is to help you learn how to make effective choices under stress.

Approximately 300 rounds.
Cost:  $150
Gear needed:  Firearm, holster, ability to carry about 30 rounds to the line between the gun and the extra magazines in pouches on your body.  (CCW gear is expected, but not required.)

I'll note:  I'm closing this class off at 6 people, and I've already got four registered.  So---if you are interested, get your registration in soon.

It occurs to me to add---we'll be doing a bit of force-on-force in this class.  Yes, Lorimor, gas-powered AirSoft guns.  Yay!

We will NOT be physically assaulting each other (no empty-hand force-on-force contact) though we will be modeling some potential issues for illustrative purposes.

Just one question...If I take this class, and Lorimor is there, do I get to mercilessly unload on him like Chris Z did?

I think----that I won't answer that question until everyone is there on class day.

I think it fair to mention that I upgraded the s/w on my Airsoft.  It fires plutonium hydroxide carbonate pellets at approx 56,000 FPS now.  (But it's environmentally friendly and emits no greenhouse gases in the process.)

So it's okay.
