It's commonly known among physicists (BTW-I'm actually a mere chalk-on-the-butt engineering professor, not one of those lofty high-IQ physicists) that moving objects grow in size as they approach the speed of light.
Which means that if you had sufficient velocity, you could pack a 9mm, but it would hit with the impact of a .45ACP. And you wouldn't have to lug around all that metal.
Let's give unfy some hot powder and turn him loose on this project.

First the regrettable experimentation with the .40S&W round, now the desire for a 9mm rail-gun round?
Is this seeming breach of loyalty to your beloved .357SIG round a subtle cry for help or indicative of the onset of a mid-life crisis? ;D

So Many Issues Raised Here; So Many Hidden Layers Now Exposed.
First, we have needed Someone to head the Forum Ministry of Culture. RedDot is a shoo-in. He has the rare gift of flash insight into the very heart of things. Give him just a few bits of seemingly unrelated information, and Voila!......... It's all neatly laid out.
Second, I've been low-profiling the .357Sig thing lately. Perps hear about its Wonders, they may all rush out and get one. Just let them lug around their 9mms for now.
Third, the .22Calibri Mousegun Railgun will break out from concept to development as soon as the NRA comes up with funding.
Fourth, my midlife crisis was..........so long ago. sfg has weathered that event with only minimal scarring and is now running fast on the far side. Hard to believe, really. You'll see when you get there.
There's more, but I shouldn't want to drone on. Few things worse than a gun bore.

David Hineline:
New indoor range opened in Sioux City Iowa, I got a first day open tour, the backstop is angled steel covered with ground up tire many inches thick.
About half way down the 75 foot range on the floor were the bullets from Hornady Critical Defense 380 ammunition, it could not penetrate ground up tire and bounced back, there was no expansion just the tip of the bullet pinches shut around the plastic insert. This is what I found about Hornady XTP bullets years ago, no expansion just a pinched shut hollowpoint.
