Indoor Gun Range at 84th and Center ?
« on: December 12, 2014, 02:05:34 PM »
Ran across this article and thought I'd pass it on.  Don't remember a theater in that area, or did I misread that part?

A group called the Omaha Gun Club wants to use it as a recreational shooting range. A website for the project calls it “an elite 5-star, firearm practice facility” with a focus on education and safety. The City Planning Board approved a conditional use permit in September.

Cinema Center was a popular movie theatre when I was a kid growing up in Ralston. It was just east and south of 84th and Center. The big multi-screen theatres probably killed it.

I first heard of this idea about a year ago, these folks have been putting this together for a long time.  They hired outside people to do studies on how many shooters are in the area, studied business models for how to draw the shooters in and paid for professionals to design the range and plan the shops etc. to make this attractive to the city.  Personally it may end up being a little high end for my pocket book but I know several people that would be interested in spending their money there.

This is the old Douglas Theater that has been closed for several years now, its about a block south of Center I think the street its on is 82nd.

Yep, went to many movies there.

That would be a great facility to convert to a indoor range and a great location.

Right across the street from Canfield's?  My wallet will be at extreme risk.

Maybe we will get lucky and it will be something like the new place opening next month in Independence, MO. (http://www.frontier-justice.com/).
Be nice to have more options for ranges in the area.
