Hark! Senator Chambers Speaks!
« on: January 23, 2015, 07:21:17 AM »
"The right answer is not one size fits all. Administrators know the school better than I do, better than you do, senators. LB135 would give them an additional option," said Lincoln attorney and Nebraska Firearm Owners Association board member Dick Clark.

Opponents said the eight-hour course required to obtain concealed and carry permit does not qualify members of a security team to handle weapons around children.

"Children need protection from foolish, simple-minded adults who want to play with guns," said committee member Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha, an opponent of gun proliferation.

Chambers said in "a gun-happy state" he was happy to see a bill by Sen. Jerry Johnson of Wahoo that would increase penalties for reckless shooting near buildings or property in smaller towns. The penalties are higher in Omaha and Lincoln.

It is highly likely the above post may offend you. I'm fine with that.

Has anybody (as in anti-gun folks) thought that the schools or churches or whomever could maybe, just maybe individually require that their security personnel attend more training? Nothing in the law stops them from requiring more training than the law itself. We're just giving them options.
"Well-regulated" meant well equipped, trained and disciplined... not controlled with an iron fist.

Has it ever been proven that training automatically equates to competency?

What about the individual's attitude?  A poor/nonchalant/indifferent attitude can't be trained well.

And trained or not, the presence of weapons does act as a deterrent to at least some of these nutjobs.

What the opposition is attempting to do is to put the price tag out of the reach of the average Joe.

Where are the cries of economic discrimination from the arbiters of "fairness" and "equality?"

Opponents said the eight-hour course required

He did a good job debating Senator Soul Glow. He (EC) had to make an obligatory "look at me I'm an ass" comment to each the bill presenters.  NOTHING of value other than his hate spewing.    The above "quote" seems to be a part of the problem communicating to these nimrods.  There is NO "eight-hour course" to obtain a CHP.  In fact, there is nothing to state how long a CHP course is to be in length.  Regardless, this "training time" argument from the nimrods should be countered so as to dispel the idea of "they don't have the training and so they are going to randomly shoot everyone and everywhere .....

And with some no amount of training or experience is enough:

Surely Mr. Chambers was just speaking from first hand experience about the folks in his own neighborhood.

I believe the general concept is being missed.

If schools contain individuals carrying firearms, it is suspected that criminal intent could be detered by a target that can shoot back. Obviously training on many levels is a good thing. But, mostly, the bad guys just need to know schools are not an easy target because a simple minded adult just might end their plan.
