how will you handle a break down

  I missed the breakfast today, my truck wouldn't start, the starter just wined. I pulled it out of the truck, and it had sheared the nose off of it,  so I went out to my building and got another starter off the shelf, I been scraping my old trucks out for years. always the same type of truck, a Chevy with a V8, 
   I have spare parts for the engines, starters. trannys, even several extra distributors,   gotta think about what you have on hand and what you will need!

Gotta love the interchangeable small block chevy parts!  my buddy asked me the other day if he could have my spare distributor?     "HELL NO, I DIDN'T SAVE THE SPARE BECAISE I ONLY WANTED ONE"

I have more access to Ford Fairmont/Mercury Zephyr parts than ... probably any other single person in the world (outside of my family).

They were my dad's obsession for several years. Now, we have a couple dozen of them parked in the trees at the farm.

At one time my dad and us boys all had late 70s Fords and a spare part or two. We threatened to buy land just to house trucks.  Sadly we all stepped out and moved into more modern rides.  Recently, though, we have been talking about getting back into pre-computerized vehicles again. ( brother T is now restoring a  '73 F100 straight six , three on the tree 2WD  - about as basic as you can get ) Not only is there the ease of repairs, cheap and plentiful parts, but also the threat of an EMP - whether man made or by solar event.   A strong enough zap would render most every vehicle on the road inoperable.

I can say that if I go out and my rig won't go, I just go to another one.
Kind of like guns it's nice to have options.

 I had to open my big mouth  and brag that I had parts here, well the broken nose of the starter that I couldn't find, somehow has jammed the Hyd, clutch. I drove home 27 miles, without a clutch, now I hope I can pull the starter and snag the broken part, or I have to pull the motor,   anyone want to help?

I have wondered about how would a guy go about starting a old non-computerized car with a automatic transmisson in the event of an emp if it fried that battery too?  My 442 no longer has a computer or any useless emissions B.S.....just need fuel & spark!  Of course I would need a non electronic distributor & a 12 volt source to start it...   

I have been considering building an old k5 blazer for the very purpose of having a fun off road vehicle with zero necessary electronic components....
