M&P Shield .40 S&W Carry Ammo

I bought a new shield last week and like it quite a bit, but I can't get it to cycle Hornady Critical Defense 165 Grain. It kept having feeding issues and sometimes the plate on the back of the slide would slide down and cause it to not go back into battery.

I swapped over to some cheap winchester white box (165 grain) also to see how it did and it worked flawlessly. Should I look into sending it back? Or maybe look for a new defense round?

Kendahl:
I've read good things about Winchester Train and Defend ammunition. It's available in 180 grain .40 S&W. Shoot the cheaper Train for practice and load Defend for defense. Except for expansion in the target, ballistics are the same for both.

Ronvandyn:
There are lots of PD rounds out there for the 40, Hornady even makes a few that you might like.  I have tried lots of them and dont really see the difference in the actual shooting of them, they all go bang.  Terminal ballistics is not my game, but as I understand it any PD round from a reputable source will serve your needs.  I'd suggest the Winchester PDX rounds, they cycle well and have some pretty good reviews.

Break it in a with a few hundred rounds. A new gun sometimes needs to be worn in a little bit. If the PD doesn't work 100% don't carry it. Try another brand  test several boxes at a time.

Nothing more enjoyable then breaking in a new gun!

What do you guys think about the slide back plate coming down on its own?
