Reinforce the buffer tube area and use a high strength material....boom.  Instant stripped lower.

Oh, Yes!   I'm thinking a swirl of complimentary colors would be better than the starburst/skittles variety.

The idea of using lost wax to cast aluminum is really interesting.  Add a simple propane torch powered forge and you can turn your old beer cans into receivers. :)
