decent scope for 3 gun AR
« on: November 10, 2015, 08:23:33 PM »
Getting hooked on 3 gun ( thanks ENGC!).  My eyes need a little help on distance targets.  Thinking about a 1-4 or 1-6 power scope.
Would not have a need to go past 300 yards.

I have an entry level AR so I really don't want to mortgage the house for a scope :)

I really like my primary arms 1-6 for about 270 and a less expensive 1-4. Vortex just came out with a nice 1-6 for 400ish. Bruis also makes some nice stuff in that price range.

A decent, mount will count 100 or less. PA also sells mounts. They are not fancy but very strong and funtional. I picked up a cheap one off eBay it's solid but I will up grade at some point.

I just picked up a Nikon P-223 1.5-4X20 with a BDC 600 yard reticle.  Only one outing on it but so far so good.

Both of those were on my radar.  Additionally, kinda gazing at a vortex Crossfire 2 and Millett DMS.

Mud has a lot more experience with optics then I do but what I do know is often the glass quality is about equal in these price ranges and the major difference is the reticle design. 600 yd bdc is pretty standard,..

I started out shooting 3gun this year with the PA 1-6x scope then upgraded to the Vortex strike eagle 1-6x. The Vortex has clearer glass but the PA has more forgiving eye relief. I've shot both out to 300 yards and was happy with each. If you're interested in purchasing a used PA scope pm me:-)

I have these 2,

they are pretty good scopes, bottom one is on sale

I have the bottom one that Shooter listed on a budget upper I put together.  For a cheap scope I was pleasantly surprised.  Not really the greatest reticle for 3 gun, but it works.  The BDC reticle is pretty close to dead on out to 400 yards (the furthest I've shot it) with my handloads.  At least good enough to hit a 12" gong consistently.

My favorite budget scope is the Burris TAC30 I have on my regular 3 gun rifle.  I really, really like the reticle.  It's a great scope for the money.

My favorite AR scope hands down is my Bushnell Elite Tactical 1-6.5 which currently resides on my SBR.  Glass is fantastic and the reticle is great.  By far the nicest optic I own, even better than what's on my precision rifle.  Bushnell's high end stuff these days is very, very good.  And no, I did not pay anything even close to retail for it...  :D
