USPSA Charity Match - 9/6/15 @ ENGC
SeanN:
September's match is going to be a bit different than our normal monthly matches... James (Jim) Schober [Mudnrox on the NFOA forum] was recently diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer. He's 45 years old, is married, and has a daughter who is going to be a senior in high school this year. Doctors have estimated that he has 15 months to live. He will be undergoing chemo and radiation treatments in the near future.
James has been an amazing friend to everyone that volunteers at the matches at ENGC. He has always been there when we needed help--he's worked matches as an RO, he's designed stages, he is the current Steel Challenge coordinator, and he is the one who completely redesigned our website and has continued to update it.
We all want to help him and his family as much as we can, specifically, to be able to add some mobility alterations to their house so he can remain independent and at home with his family as much as possible. Because of that, all of the match fees for this match are being donated directly to him and his family. Further, any donation above the match fee will be matched 100% by Eastern Nebraska Gun Club. That means if you give $20, James and his family will receive $40.
Remember that the match fee is only $15. You can bring $20, pay the match fee, and drop the extra $5 in the donation box. If we get 60 people to do that, and it is matched by the gun club... that can make a real difference.
Please give as much as you can. If you know James you know that he is one of the nicest people in the world and he has done so much for our sport.
Important note: We are strictly enforcing our registration policy. Anyone showing up after 8:30AM will not be allowed to shoot the match! Please show up early to help setup!
Online Pre-Registration: https://clubs.practiscore.com/enps-september-uspsa-match-charity-match/register
Please note that you must show up prior to 8:30AM to pay and sign in with match staff even if you pre-register!
Match Fee: $15.
Schedule Is As Follows:
* Setup will start at 7:15AM. We appreciate any help we can get with setup. The more people we have, the faster we can get shooting!
* Registration closes at 8:30AM but you definitely want to show up sooner if you can. We will, as always, do our best to accommodate squadding requests but your chances are exponentially better at getting those requests fulfilled if you register online or show up very early on match day!
* Safety and New Shooter Briefing begins at 8:30AM.
* Shooters’ Meeting starts at 9:00AM.
* Match begins immediately following the Shooters’ Meeting.Equipment You Will Need:
* A handgun chambered in 9x19mm or larger.
* A holster for your handgun. It is highly recommended you get one designed specifically for your gun and not a universal holster.
* Extra magazines. You will have to reload on the clock. Belt-mounted magazine pouches are also a great addition as they will significantly speed up your reload time and allow you to more easily carry magazines. If you need to, you can put mags in an appropriate pocket for your division (Do NOT put magazines in a front pocket if you intend to shoot production or any other division that stipulates magazine placement! This will put you into Open!)
* Plenty of ammunition. It never hurts to have “too much” ammo. While you may not use every round, I always recommend a couple hundred rounds (in case of necessary reshoots or "make up shots").Not sure what division you have the equipment for [see Appendix D]? Should be a really fun match (and it's for a great cause)! Hope to see you all at the range!
JTH:
Just wanted to bump this to remind folks:
1) GO TO THE MATCH...because USPSA is fun!
2) GO TO THE MATCH...because helping a friend is a good thing.
3) GO TO THE MATCH....but first please pre-register online to make it easier on everyone. Link here: https://clubs.practiscore.com/enps-september-uspsa-match-charity-match/register
We've averaged 61 shooters per USPSA match (not counting Sectional) at ENGC this year. If we all show up, and everyone pays $15 and drops a $5 into the jar, that's going to make a serious difference.
(If everyone pays the normal $15 for the match and ALSO drops a $20 into the jar, that will make a HUGE difference. Remember, the club is going to match anything that gets put into the jar. I've been to James's house recently, and they've already done a ton of construction work on it for him---railings, extra supports, shower/bathroom downstairs, shifting his work materials and computer stuff---and we can really help with this. So....come shoot the match?)
JTH:
It was great to see 72 shooters out there yesterday! (And we raised a TON of money for James, which is a great thing. Seriously, shooters are some of the best people.)

I wasn't told the exact amount---but I heard (take that for what it is worth) that the number was in the thousands BEFORE we added the matching amount that ENGC pledged.
