"Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine confirmed Wednesday that Heng had a concealed weapons permit.

"He had a concealed carry permit, so he was carrying legally. However, his use of the firearm we felt was unjustified," Kleine said."

I tried to find another thread that might have updated the "current" news on this incident (It's from Oct 2015).

Thanks for posting this. I missed this one too. I definitely have my ears perked now and will be following this story. According to the letter of the law, assuming this facts presented by the media jackals are accurate, it seems like a good shoot.

Still, I have a feeling that there are some teachable moments here once we have the truth, the full truth and a verdict. Gut feeling, the room mate of the deceased could have called in the domestic violence and could also have left the apartment. Of course there are details missing, like perhaps she did and her friend had a faster response time. Don't know, it would seem we have too many questions and no answers until the trial.

Hoboy!  Heng may have been in fear for his life, but he put himself in that situation.

This was avoidable IMHO.  You wanna be a cop?  Go get a badge.

BranchMillardian:
Shoulda, coulda, woulda. We have no idea yet as to the exact details in how he ended up there. I seriously doubt his co-worker called him up and said; "My boyfriend just abused me and trashed the place, can you come over and shoot him for me?"

Sometimes these things have a way of escalating far more rapidly than one realizes.

Maybe police had already been called, maybe not.
It may be that boyfriend left, and she called her co-worker, Heng to come pick her up and she was trying to get packed and out and the boyfriend barged his way in.
Or maybe she wanted him locked out and "took a stand", which then I agree is a pretty stupid move on the part of Heng to get involved.
Or maybe Heng really is just some psycho, or a George Zimmerman type walking around with a paranoia, or chip on his shoulder, just looking to kill someone. Time will tell.

In the meantime I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Especially because he has no record and the dead aggressor does have one.
