Mall owner halts pistol-whipping
By Andrew J. Nelson
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER
The owner of a strip mall near 32nd and Q Streets and his son interrupted a pistol-whipping tonight.
See World Herald for complete story. Discharging a firearm at a disarmed fleeing suspect, not good for police, just as bad for a civilian.
FarmerRick:
The small story I seen about it on KMTV last night seemed to almost glorify the shooter in the interview. Kinda surprising.

Heroes Take Action During Brutal Beating
Posted: Nov 19, 2009 11:02 PM
Omaha, NE - Two good Samaritans take action during a brutal beating on an Omaha street. It happened at 32nd and 'Q' streets just after eight Thursday night. You could call it a family affair when a father-son duo come to the rescue. They see a man being pistol whipped in a parking lot outside a restaurant. The dad then takes out his own gun to try to stop the suspect.
More than half a dozen shell casings litter the ground at the La Ezmeralda strip mall. The bullets didn't come from the suspects gun, rather the gun of the man who owns the place.

I wonder if Mr. Gomez has a ccw permit? It will be interesting to see how Omaha handles this. In trying to do what he felt was right he violated Nebraska and possibly Omaha law.
AAllen:
Update from the morning paper:
Police considered ticketing Gomez on suspicion of unlawful discharge of a firearm but decided against it, said Sgt. Mark Matuza. Gomez, he said, believed that the attacker still had a gun.

Contains some other good examples of citizens coming to the aid of police.
