Demonstration by Nebraskans Against Gun Violence
bradhaas:
Today I learned that Nebraskans Against Gun Violence are a thing. They did a demonstration at the capitol building in Lincoln: http://www.omaha.com/news/crime/in-honor-of-victims-of-violence-group-lines-state-capitol/article_acaa8b12-a06a-11e5-bd37-e7f07960f9df.html
I know I'm cynical, but that angle makes the display look bigger than it was (see photos at https://www.facebook.com/events/1677039802538867/ ).
Anyway, maybe I ought to join the organization, as I too would prefer for gun violence not to occur.
farmerbob:
There is NO such thing as "gun violence ", just as there is no such thing as knife violence ,rock violence , etc..... these are inanimate objects incapable of violence or assault, these actions are attributed to living beings, individuals can use a tool such as a gun or a hammer to commit violence or assault.
If these organizations would concentrate more on the the individuals who commit these acts and less on the tool they used maybe they could make a difference, most of these individuals suffer from hoplophobia and see firearms as big scary things of no use except bad, that and the liberal agenda of control.
Of course this all seems pretty obvious?
Maybe if they changed their name to "Nebraskan's Against Criminal Violence", I might sign up?

I wonder if they cleaned up their mess when they finished?

Any idea if this group is independent or funded? Just the fact that they proclaim existence with "Gun" in their title is nothing in our (gun owner) favor.

Those who use terms like gun violence show themselves to be indoctrinated fools being herded like cattle. Other fools just like them have carried one tyrant after another to power throughout human history. They are the ones Abe Lincoln was referring to when he said "you can fool some of the people all of the time..."
I like to ask them if they would rather be killed by gun violence or say something like arson violence. Then I like to ask them where the historic correlation is between firearm development and an increase in violence within a society. In fact historically, even in war, as weapon lethality increases, per capita battlefield deaths decrease (this is explained in some detail in a book titled The Evolution of Weapons and Warfare, by well-respected military historian retired Colonel Trevor N Dupuy, page 307).
It's not the weapon that matters and never has been, it's the will to commit murder; the means to do it and the mechanical difficulty of it has not been what made the difference. That's been the case since Cain killed Abel. Or for the liberals, since the first cave man picked up a rock (or maybe since the cave man's supposed ancestor the amoeba evolved into an animal with teeth).
A look at history shows clearly that stupid people who can be herded like cattle are infinitely more dangerous than guns; guns are not dangerous at all by themselves, but stupid people are dangerous even if no one is herding them. Either can be dangerous in the wrong hands, but those herded like cattle have been far more destructive than individuals with guns. So maybe there should be a group called Nebraskans Against Stupid People Being Herded Like Cattle.
