2016 Resolution #2: Take a class!
« on: January 10, 2016, 05:09:22 PM »
Every year I try to take a class from a reputable instructor.  And it is something I would certainly suggest to everyone else, too.

Whether it is in an area where you have a serious need for help, or a topic you find interesting, to something new you want to try, taking a class from a reputable instructor teaching well-researched, current-day skills is a good thing.  (Though you want to check to make sure the instructor knows what they are talking about, otherwise you'll end up in a class with the clowns from American Defense Enterprises or something similar.)

There's nothing wrong with taking the adult equivalent of an adventure camp weekend, either.  So you'll never actually gear up and do squad exercises with a carbine---so what?  Will you have fun?  Will you learn something?  Then go for it.

I'll admit that my priorities are a bit more on the "defensive skills, ccw skills, shooting skills, all with pistols" side, but that's just for me.  Doesn't mean that anyone else needs to have those priorities at all.  But it is CERTAINLY true that people who don't take classes, often do not understand good technique, don't recognize it, and don't realize how much better they could get if they simply took a class.  (And are often shocked when their skills actually get compared to someone competent.)

Take a class.  Learn something!
