rifle length with supressor

Im thinking about building a AR, with a attached suppressor,

    Can I use a short barrel. maybe 10 1/2 just as a example, and permantly weld the tube to the barrel, can I do this with just the suppressor stamp? since the can will basically become part of the barrel making it 16 inches long?   

    this is a ways of. but I been thinking about it a lot

Yes. You can do it that way.

FWIW, I'd suggest SBR'ing a lower since you're talking AR though.

Less hassle (but more expensive) than welding.
Cleaning and/or maintenance may be easier.
Not limited to handguards that will be fat enough to go over the can. (na if you're using a 2-piece handguard)
Can move the suppressor to different hosts/barrels.
Can use the lower for multiple SBR uppers.
etc.

 I was going to build my own suppressor, welding is no problem either, was going to make it so the rear cap was welded to the tube, the front cap would unscrew and allow me to pull the guts out the front for cleaning. planned on standard 2 piece handguards ,  as far as different weapons, Ill just  make more,. they are only $200 each for a stamp. making them is almost free. I have a very large pile of project steel,

I would recommend the SBR route too, but appears you have it planned out. Keep us updated on your project. Sounds interesting.

It will be cool either way. SBR would just be a little cooler, IMO.

To throw out another pro-SBR factor... Just a bit too much, or uneven, heat during welding could potentially ruin the accuracy of a barrel. I'd think blind-pin-and-weld or high-temp solder would be a better option if you are dead set against an SBR stamp.

I wouldn't fulll weld it just drill and pin then top off with a tack weld. There is no need to fully weld the cap.

If you're going to use pure lead rounds, then cleaning is very important.

I wouldn't do it your way, sounds like a hassle, but its your guns.

Depending on how he does it you could possibly still make it disassemble depending on the design and cleaning schedules .

I don't load 5.56 with lead. so not a problem there. was trying to go for something more like the MP-5SD,

I've been thinking of going this route the next time I do a SBR too, a AR in 9mm but going to hold off any any decision till after I get my currant suppressor build stamp back.

I figure that suppressed is all I'd shoot it so why not save a $200.

Defiantly cheaper than the Liberty Leonidas

But if you can't build the rifle with a 80% lower and make the can then where's the fun in that :D

I went the 2 stamp way today. 1 for an SBR the other a suppressor for it.

I decided not to wait till may stamp comes back for my first suppressor build. With all the 41p imminent addoption noise on the net I didn't want to wait. Hopefully it will be like the last several times 41p sounded like it was going to happen but got pushed back.

what did you buy?

i think i might try to get a full auto rated 22 can before Jan.

I form1 a New Frontier Armory 9mm 80% lower for the SBR and a form1 suppressor in 9mm.

If 41p doesn't happen soon a 22 can is in the plans for next year.
