Found an interesting article in the San Diego Union-Tribune

Actually, San Diego is one of the last bastions of Conservatism in the State of Kalifornication ....

Once you get away from the coastal cities, California is quite conservative. The problem is that the large populations in those cities enable them to dominate state politics. Illinois is the same way, a mostly conservative state dominated by Chicago.

This suggests a special duty the country people in those states have if a time over comes for the militia to take up arms to preserve the Republic.
