Last Friday I went to NSP CID to renew my CHP for the second time (e.g. ten years). REALLY straight forward and easy. Print off and complete application. Call for appointment. Take your current permit and NE DL/ID/Military ID and $50. You do NOT need to take your birth certificate/passport or your proof of CHP class training. They will collect all, then return your DL and CHP. You will be fingerprinted and 2 new photos taken. You will leave with being advised your renewed permit will be sent in 5 business days and requesting you destroy your old one. Really that easy.
That said, I have it on SOUND authority, online renewal is on the way SOON ....
