Blazer Brass Ammunition any good?
« on: October 18, 2016, 07:12:56 PM »
I have read mixed reviews on Blazer Brass Ammunition.  Just wondering what your thoughts are.  I see it on sale many times but not sure about it.  Thanks.

I never had any problems with it in my Glocks and the brass was good for reloading, but it has been a few years since I last bought new ammo

I have run a few hundred rounds through my guns and it shoots well, but can be a little dirty sometimes. Not as bad as others I have shot though.

No issues for me with either their handgun or rimfire ammunition.

I have shot both 9mm and 40. No issues at all.

I was at a local store and opened a box of Blazer Brass.  Many if not all were discolored. Had spots all over them.  Since I did not know if this is a sign of something bad, we did not purchase any.

That, to me, is unusual for that brand.  I just opened 5 boxes of .40 and all are clean & shiny...so, not sure what to tell you.

Blazer Brass used to be the go to affordable target ammo. Then it became scarce for a while, not sure if it was the rush on ammo a while back or what.  I've been seeing it again.  I had one .45 Taurus that didn't care for it, seemed the good thick brass would catch on the ramp- but then again, it's a picky child.

I've seen a number of people use it in classes in a variety of calibers.  Never saw any ammunition-related gun issues from those people during class.

I sent an email to the factory asking about the spots and received this reply

"This is an issue we are aggressively pursuing. What you are seeing on the cases is cosmetic only in nature. When the rounds are loaded here at the facility, we do not see the staining you are seeing now.  If you reload, when you run the rounds through a cleaning media, these will disappear.  What is happening is that during the wash process, sometimes there is a soap film left on the case that is not fully rinsed.  As the products is stored, usually under hot and humid conditions, the moisture in the air is attaching to this residue.  It is essentially nothing more than what you may see in your dishwasher and spots left after the cleaning process.

Again, this is cosmetic only in nature.  Try shooting some of the rounds and see how they function. If you have issues, let us know and we will get back with you."

Sounds good to me so I might try some and see for myself.

I have over 1000 rounds through my Walther PPQ 9mm this year of Blazer Brass 115gr.  Never a fail to feed or fire, even with my after market magazines.  Does leave dirty powder residue in the pistol.  I've reloaded a few 100 of the brass and it's worked great for that.
