.223/5.56 loads for Barmes TSX 62 gr
« on: January 02, 2017, 11:44:13 AM »
Looking to work up a new load and am wondering if any NFOA members have a pet load or maybe found an accuracy node using Ramshot TAC. I have the following data to work with Using Lake City brass and CCI 400 SR Primers

62 BARNES TSX-BT  (5.56 loads)
24.1gr min       2,965 fps
26.7gr max      3,244 fps
61,196 psi
2.255" Cartridge Overall Length

I also have Hodgdon H335 available if you have any data using that powder.

As you may well know this projectile is expensive and I would like to reduce wasted attempts in the work up process if I can.

TIA

I found some more data for Ramshot TAC 5.56 loads with Barnes 62gr TSX-BT
25.0gr starting load 2.240" COL velocity 2805fps
http://www.barnesbullets.com/load-data/
Quote
Revised 01/10/2011
Bullet Weight: 62 gr Case Trim Length: 1.750 " S.D. 0.177
Bullet Style: Tac-X Primer: Federal 205 B.C. 0.287
COAL: 2.240 " Barrel Length: 16.5"
Case: LC Twist Rate: 1:7 "
Charge Velocity Charge Velocity
Powder (grains) (fps) (grains) (fps)
TAC (Ramshot) 25.0 2805 27.0 3004

My results today

10 loaded with 25.2gr TAC 2.240" COL(crimped) 62gr Barnes TSX-BT CCI srp #400

Chronographed velocity @ 45*F
HIGH 2855 fps
LOW 2795 fps
AVERAGE 2821 fps

Brass showed no signs of pressure induced damage or primer flattening

Accuracy was about 1.5 MOA at 100 yards for the 10 shot string including 1 called flyer due to a trigger flinch.

My next test will be at 26.0 gr TAC to get nearer my goal of 3000fps (27.0 MAX)
