1911 work... gunsmiths?
Ry45:
Hey fellas, I got a SA 1911 G.I. 45. When ever I shoot the thing I get wicked hammer bite pretty much every time due to my high grip. I love shooting it, but I don't shoot it as often as I'd like because of the bite.
So I was looking into some beaver-tails. From what i understand they don't just "drop in" and require some smith work.
Anybody know of a good smith that won't rip me off and do a good job?
Also any beaver-tail and hammer recommendations?
Sotex:
Dude, if you live in NE and need work on a 1911, we have a nationally/internationally renowned gunsmith operation:

If you are looking for a local dude, maybe someone else can help you out.
Dan W:
Cylinder and Slide is very good and very pricey.
Another option would be to look up Travis Frerking in Cortland NE, just outside of Lincoln

Ry45:
Cool thanks for the tips... yeah I've known of cylinder and slide for a few years now. They are really pricey though.
I've heard they are usually swamped with so much gun work that its hard to get your gun back at a decent time (that's hearsay though...)
But I will look into it, thanks guys!
FLUFF:
I have been the Cylinder and Slide route.
Yes it took a while, yes it was expensive,
but well worth the time and expense.
You don't rush quality and it don't come cheap
