1911 work... gunsmiths?

<< < (4/4)

rluening:
And to followup on the thread JimP linked - I had a Ruger MkII threaded by Gun & Machine. Fred does good work at a fair price. I have no idea what he knows about working on a 1911, but he seemed honest to me.

Anyone got any personal experience with Fred ragle?

Another option would be to look up Travis Frerking in Cortland NE,  just outside of Lincoln

Sorry Dan, I have to stand up and shout do not let Travis Ferking work on your gun, he screwed up a simple installation of a Millet rear sight on my Colt 1911 and wouldn't make it right, first time I've ever seen a sight fall on the floor when the tension screws were loosened by Travis.  I should have seen it coming, I asked him to do several things for me which a gunsmith should know how to do and he refused, said he didn't know how.  I had to finally send it to Lonnie at Run-N-Iron, it was a pretty simple fix for a compentent gunsmith.  Travis might be pretty good at screwing parts on AR's and running a lathe, but he's not in the league of Bill Laughridge at Cylinder and Slide, or Lonnie at Run-N-Iron.

Dan W:
Sorry, I was only mentioning that Frerking worked on 1911's based on hearsay... I have never had any work done by him.

FarmerRick:
I have also heard bad things about Travis via ARFCOM and at area gunshows, but have no personal experience with him.
