Merl:
"The proposal does also include exceptions that would allow Omaha to keep its ban on openly carrying firearms in public places. Omaha would also be allowed to require concealed handgun permit holders to store firearms out of reach when traveling with them in the city."
This is incorrect from the article, the bill exempts Concealed handgun permit holders from almost all of the Omaha compromise. Wish when reporting they would get the facts straight.

As per frequently with that website not much actual "reporting" is done. Always appeared to me they read the article and reword some of it so as to stave off plagiarism complaints. If it's repeated 3 times it becomes fact right? :P

This is confusing. Does my CHP allow me to open carry in Omaha? Also, will LB 68 allow the carrying of concealed firearms in parks in Omaha? I've seen a sign posted on a lamp post at Elmwood Park that says concealed firearms aren't allowed... Does this apply just driving through on the street? What about walking through on the sidewalks? Can open carry be prohibited in public parks as well?
Also: doesn't Lincoln prohibit concealed carry in parks too?

I can't speak for Lincoln's policies, but in Omaha they have posted all public parks as "firearm free zones" regardless of a CHP. Omaha did not ban open carry within city limits, rather they require the purchase of an "Open Carry Permit" unless you already have a CHP. Basically the possession of a CHP in the city means you don't have to follow their special rules. It does not give us exception from places that are posted, but that will be a fight for another day.
