Omaha would also be allowed to require concealed handgun permit holders to store firearms out of reach when traveling with them in the city."

This is incorrect from the article, the bill exempts Concealed handgun permit holders from almost all of the Omaha compromise.  Wish when reporting they would get the facts straight.

The other part of incorrect facts is the two items above where they say that Omaha "bans" open carry. Omaha didn't ban it, they regulated it. To open carry within city limits requires a permit but you can still do so.

Not sure at all where they got the whole CHP will be required to store firearms out of reach, unless they are confusing it with the bill to define "concealed."

Either way it was piss-poor reporting.

Dan W:
Lincoln THINKS they can ban legal CHP in the parks but it is only legal if they have posted conspicuous notice at every public entrance as per the definitions in the Administrative code laid out by the Nebraska State Patrol.

Otherwise the city of Lincoln has been stripped of the power to regulate transportation, possession or ownership of handguns carried under the rules and regulations of the Concealed handgun act.

Omaha has the same limitations, but I am not familiar with signage in Omaha parks

i know that the Omaha DAM Sites / lakes are posted other parks no clue.  but with Omaha being well Omaha my bet is they all are posted ......

AAllen:
I can't say all Omaha parks are posted because signs keep disappearing and some seem to only be posted at one of multiple entrances. These are posted because the director of Omaha's Parks and Recreation Department feels he must because Omaha has an ordinance that bans weapons in parks, and the city council agrees with him. LB68 would do away with that ordinance and then the signs may come down.

And yet the parks have *not* become miniature versions of the "Wild West" we often hear about...
