It's possible that this statute still applies to long guns:  rifles, shotguns.   Which may be why it's still on the books.

Lincoln has yet to modify any ordinance to reflect the changes brought about by the Concealed  Handgun Act,  and yes it would still apply to long guns even with a CHP. (GOOD POINT)

Considering the lack of any effective way to monitor the storage of firearms in a vehicle, my take is that this ordinance will only be enforced if a gun owner self reports that a missing or stolen firearm was left unattended in a vehicle for more than 24 hours, thus making the victim of the theft or loss a 2 time loser.

There is also no legal definition of "unattended" that I am aware of. Is my vehicle in my driveway monitored by a security video surveillance system unattended? I would argue that it was not.

This is off-topic of the original post, but Cassidy gets to absolutely tee off on "us" every time someone has a gun stolen out of their vehicle: https://lpd304.blogspot.com/  There are an embarrassing number of guns stolen from CHP'ers

maybe if we did not have to walk to the trunk to secure our guns every time we want to enter a store with a stupid no guns allowed sign ... in front of everyone in the parking lot where any one with keen eye sight can see what your doing maybe so many guns would not be getting stolen from cars ...

like the dam sign is going to stop a criminal ... "criminal says to him self" i better drive to that other gas station to rob it ..it don't have a no guns allowed sign on it's door ...

I have to agree with you “m morton”, sometimes it’s a sad/frustrating world we live in.
