400 Corbon vs .45, etc

APF1013:
Does anyone have a good link or resource to learn what ammunition goes with what firearm?  I don't know why but my brain just can't wrap around all the different ammo types and their application.  Any help or advice is appreciated!

SemperFiGuy:
First, Read Your Gun,  Gauge/Caliber is stamped on there somewhere.  Different places/Different guns.
Read up on that very same specific caliber on the web.  Read gunwriter articles.  Look at images.  Get thoroughly knowledgeable yourself.  Most important first step.  If still uncertain, go to a local experienced gunsmith.

Then:  Buy that very same exact ammo at the gunstore or local commercial range.
Match the ammo to the specific caliber or gauge designations on the side of the barrel. Match that designation exactly.
Get help from the Counter Guy Who Knows What He's Doing (Not all of them do, by a long shot.)

And Yes:  US ammo designations are a confusing mess.

And 9mm comes in at least six different ammo types with many more confusing designations:
9X17/.380ACP/9mmShort/9mmKurz,,
9X18/9mmMakarov
9mm/9mmNATO/9X19/9mmLuger yada,yada)
9X21/9mmRussian
9X23/9mm Bayard-Bergman
9X25

Counter guy once sold a student of mine .45GAP for use in a .45ACP 1911.  Said it would work just fine..

After all that, I get home and realize this...it has a 400 Corbon Barrel on it with a compensator. It won’t let me attach a photo as it says my cell phone picture is too big.

So with this, I can ONLY shoot 400 Corbon and nothing else, right?

SemperFiGuy:
Yes.   Only .400Corbon, with that barrel.

That cartridge has a bottle neck on it.  A .45ACP cartridge would not chamber; the .45ACP bullet would be too large.
If you have a Les Baer .400Corbon, you can get a barrel conversion kit to .45ACP.

At any rate, you just became a reloader.  Lee makes .400Corbon diesets.

Take another cell phone picture, use a smaller resolution.

Here's the WikiPedia on .400Corbon.

Thanks SFG. Will the normal 45 magazines work fine with the 400?
