HEEELLLLP
« on: August 30, 2018, 07:29:29 AM »
I have recently come into the possession of a Hornaday Lock N Load AP.  I don't reload and could use some help setting everything up.  If someone is interested in helping a guy out it would be greatly appreciated.

I would send a PM to SemperFiGuy to see if he would be available to help out with this. I have a RCBS so I would be of very little help with it.

Just intuited that my handle was in play around here somewhere.

I don't have a Hornady LNL and haven't used one.

But would be willing to work through YouTube Videos and trial and error and--if all else fails--actually read the instructions to help add another metallic cartridge reloader to the inventory.

All this assuming that it takes place somewhere around Omaha.

Now--having said all that--if you want the NFOA Seasoned Old Reloading Pro of All Time and Place,

Everybody knows that's Shooter.

So Give a Holler if You Wish.

I haven't checked out a YouTube video, but I'm guessing it's simply another turret press with a ratchet cycle.

The dies will set up the same as a single-stage press.

I have a weenie little flimsy Lee Pro 1000 progressive that I use for decapping and case belling on pistol ammo and it's fun to work the handle and take it through its cycles.  Over and over and over.

The Hornady does have an interchangeable plate for the shellholder, instead of a single shellholder.

Isn't there a NFOA member Reloading course video running around here somewhere?

Thanks for the info.  It's a lot of stuff, and everything is spread out over at least 10 different boxes and tables.  I've been on you tube and it has helped me figure out what is what as far as parts go.
Getting them matched up is the hard part.  There is a couple of different presses, and parts are not interchangeable.  I think some pieces are broken or bent. I will get the tables set up and go from there.  My mechanical aptitude is fair but I am a little overwhelmed at all of the pieces.  I will get back with you guys once the tables are up and everything is separated.  Thank you for reaching out.

SMcS:

Well, I ran through the official Hornady LNL setup videos on YouTube.
They seem to be quite clear and very step-by-step.

It appears that there are two major parts to this task:
(1)  Putting together the entire progressive press assembly
(2)  Installing and adjusting the reloading dies.
Seems reasonable to attempt the whole thing in that order.

Your task appears to be compounded because you are not working from a brand new press in a factory box, but instead have a mixture of parts of two or more presses, perhaps not all in the very best operating condition.

Seems like a challenging--and possibly fun--task, so long as you don't push it too hard to completion.

It wuz--wunzt upon a time--a Sticky in the Cartridge and Shotshell Section.
However, since the Forum format conversion, it is no longer there.

And it was a very specialized video about making 9X19 Luger reloads on a single-stage press.

Thank you again.  I am going to hit it pretty hard this weekend, I got a lot of it separated out tonight.  Tomorrow, after work, I am going to get after it again.  I was just pretty overwhelmed and two heads are always better than one.  In my case that would be a half of a head, but I digress.  Pretty cool stuff. I will let you guys know how it turns out when I am done.

There are usually folks on this Forum who are willing to come forward with information, advice, help..........all that.
And cartridge reloading is certainly one of those areas where it's always wise to request help instead of plunging forward.
Nobody wants KA-BOOM..!!!!

Very good advice indeed.

BTW, the video is stickied. I have no idea what you guys were talking about it not being there. Nope, not at all.

76Highboy on YouTube has a good 5 part series on setting up the lnlap. If you have a fb account, the group Reloading the Hornady Way is a good place for help. But mainly, follow the instructions and take your time. It's not that complicated.

Plenty of good videos on YouTube for setting up and using a brannew Hornady LNL, right outa the box from the LGS.
Including some very well rendered Hornady Factory Videos.

However, it appears that Sticky's LNL is a mishmash, potpourri, farrago, and/or olio of all kinda mixed-together unlabeled progressive reloader devices and parts, some of which may be Hornady LNL and some which may not.   And it may not all even be there.

If, so....first the wheat must be separated from the chaff.   Or sumthin'............
