Amazing, What You Can Pick Up on the News:
Buzz About an NRA Endorsement of.................Harry Reid!!!!!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
POLITICO [Tuesday, July 6, 2010]
The conservative Netroots are abuzz over the possibility that the NRA may endorse Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). This would be the second major slight by the NRA for political conservatives ? the gun group also just negotiated a big exemption on a campaign finance bill loathed by the right.
Conservatives say there?s a clear political calculation at work: If Reid loses, he?s almost certain to be succeeded as majority leader by a fierce gun-control advocate, either Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin or New York Sen. Chuck Schumer.
The NRA isn?t even denying this line of reasoning but says it hasn?t made a decision about whether to endorse Reid.
?The Second Amendment and the National Rifle Association are always one bad incident away from politicians like Chuck Schumer and Dick Durbin exploiting their agenda of gun control,? said Andrew Arulanandam, an NRA spokesman.

The only reason why they are considering him is because he helped get some pork for a $60+million dollar shooting range in Nevada. The NRA should support Republican Sharon Angle who is with the tea party movement and is a solid 2nd Amendment supporter. You can never trust the democrats with your gun rights!

I was reading articles today about the DOJ suit against AZ over the immigration bill. Many of the articles set aside 1/3 to 1/2 of the text for how it affects political posturing and such. Short term surges, long term losses for parties, etc etc etc.
I'm sorry, but I don't play the politics game... so... while I imagine there is some logic to political maneuvering such as supporting Reid... I don't get it :) ... and I choose not to get it :)
To possibly support your enemy against a preferable small fry ally ... in fear of your enemy's replacement being worse than your current enemy... is... just... weird. Are you... standing up for your ideals ? Selling them out ? ... I just dunno :angel1:

I was surprised to see that Reid isn't completely anti-gun, which is all the NRA 'cares' about- but Reid is certainly not a champion of gun rights and he's still a bucket of puke. I think the NRA would do well to endorse the strongest pro-2A candidate in a given race, or if there is no good choice endorse neither. Schumer & Durbin ARE worse for guns then Reid as majority leader but if we have a net gain of a few more pro-gun Senators then that is negated. Gridlock is a good thing when it comes to a demon-crat controlled congress. And who knows, maybe the GOP can win back the House?

Maybe the NRA should decide which message they want to send to their membership and their potential membership?
Backing Reid is hypocritical no matter how they may try to justify it.
It's long past time they call BS, BS and not try to sugar coat it - most people, and especially gun people, see thru that in a hurry.
The NRA will shoot themselves in the foot if they back Reid - long term, short term - every way from go.
