I certainly think cost is the big issue... it was for me, but finally took the plunge after I bought my first handgun (Springfield XDm -9mm) and got the training.  Permit should be here this week if the last estimates I heard are correct.  Supertuck holster should be here around the first of August.

Here is an interesting article from Michigan- http://www.wwmt.com/articles/michigan-1378984-weapons-carrying.html has a bit of everything, discusses open carry, the numbers of CCW permits in Michigan, law enforcement response, etc. Most amazing to me in the last YEAR ALONE Michigan has issued 150,000 new permits to total about 235,000. Total population is nearly 10million, over 5x Nebraska, but still that is a shockingly high number. Wish every state would see that kind of increase- or better a repeal of CCW 'laws' and a Vermont style exercise of freedom.

There is  nothing quite like a complete collapse of the local economy to spur increases in  CCW applications

Just checked current permit numbers as of today 7,700 current NE CHP holders

I got mine this month.  It was a month to the day between application and the issue date on the permit.  The permit came in the mail two days later.

I got mine in the last month and it took 1 day short of 5 weeks.  Still not bad considering a guy I work with got his last year and it took almost 9 weeks.
