I hate being helplessly disarmed at work

Rodney Moorhead:
Anyone else hate that feeling.  Even tho we have a couple off duty cops and bunches of security guards I still feel naked without my Sig.  We had a three hundred pound shemale go bonkers outside my job with a machete.  I watched the whole thing unfold from a window.  The cops managed to stop him but he swung a few times at people, got into his truck and almost hit a few people that way, rammed a cruiser and got out and was taken down by the police.  They found besides the machete a couple samurai swords and several dozen throwing stars.

I should thank my lucky stars he did not make it into work.  He is a regular and quite insane.  Thankfully also he did not have a firearm also and lastly nobody was harmed.

Well my coffee break is over.

The only time I have felt unarmed at work was during layoffs and when an unstable drunk got fired.  One never knows what is going to happen when a persons livelyhood is taken away.  Luckily we never had any problems.  That being said not being 'allowed' to have firearms in my vehicle is a real bummer. The late night or early morning convenience store stops to and from work, without a side arm could make make a person quite uneasy, I would think. ;)

Agreed. I too work in a "Sheeple only zone"... strangely enough the place has been robbed 4 times in the last 3 years. I just started at this location 3 months ago, and its happened once since I've been here. In this neighborhood I would feel a bit more at ease even if I was allowed to "Carry" in my car. I don't leave till around midnight 5 nights a week.

I work at a school, and we have a parent that is completely out of control.  He got physical with our principal two years ago and the principal didn't call the police, so now the guy thinks he can do whatever he wants... he has an assault record.  Being at a school I'll obviously never be able to carry, and I sure do miss feeling a little more secure when I'm there.

Kind of on the same topic... it's my understanding that I can have my pistol locked in the back of my SUV and have my SUV parked in the school parking lot, right?  My rationale is that the range is on the complete opposite side of town from where I live, and my school is somewhere in between, so if I want to join a league or just go shooting after work, it would save me almost 30 minutes if I were to keep the pistol in the trunk and drive there.  Is my understanding correct?

Just Taught This Very Issue to My CHP Class Today:

28-1204.04. Unlawful possession of a firearm at a school; penalty; exceptions; confiscation of certain firearms; disposition.

(1) Any person who possesses a firearm in a school, on school grounds, in a school-owned vehicle, or at a school-sponsored activity or athletic event is guilty of the offense of unlawful possession of a firearm at a school.   Unlawful possession of a firearm at a school is a Class IV felony.

This subsection shall not apply to..........................

(e) firearms contained within a private vehicle operated by a nonstudent adult which are not loaded and (i) are encased or (ii) are in a locked firearm rack that is on a motor vehicle, or

(f) a handgun carried as a concealed handgun by a valid holder of a permit issued under the Concealed Handgun Permit Act in a vehicle or on his or her person while riding in or on a vehicle into or onto any parking area, which is open to the public and used by a school if, prior to exiting the vehicle, the handgun is locked inside the glove box, trunk, or other compartment of the vehicle, a storage box securely attached to the vehicle.........

sfg,

PS-In my Hyundai Elantra, I can crawl from the front seat over into the back seat, pull down the trunk access from inside, shove the handgun into the trunk, and be LEGALLLLL!!!   'Cause....if you open the car door and your foot hits the pavement on the way to the trunk while packing heat, you're not legal.

Or---Just stick it all in the glove box, like they say.   And skip the acrobatics.   Don't forget the LOCKS!!   It says, "Locked".
