I hate being helplessly disarmed at work

OnTheFly:
I REALLY wish I could carry at work, but...

I am a pilot flying business jets.  The Federal Flight Deck Officer program is only extended to Airline pilots.  The argument is that their passengers go through physical screening, whereas our passengers normally are not, and they have a secured cockpit door.  Our passengers are still screened, just not physically.  So...our passengers could bring a firearm on board, even though they know it is against our rules, and we would know nothing about it.  Is this not exactly the situation where a pilot SHOULD be armed?

Without a "secure" cockpit door, the fear is that a passenger may be able to take the firearm from us and hijack the plane.  But my question is why would they need to take ours when they could bring their own?

Yeah, I also work at an anti-gun business. I want to bring it up and get the issue debated but I don't want people to know I carry. It's sad that I feel this way but I know people look at me very differently when they learn I'm into guns and self-defense... Like I'm dangerous. Irrational and ignorant fear is really our greatest enemy as gun owners and self-defense advocates.

Ronvandyn:
I also work in a no-gun-zone, federal.  There are several of us who have CCP's and we talk about that kind of thing often.  I dont forsee us ever being given carry permission at work, but you can never tell.  :)

My company as well has a "no firearms on company property" policy in our policy manual, but is not otherwise posted.  I do not like travelling to and from my work unarmed!  I agree with others that I want the issue to be addressed, but I dont want everyone (anyone) at work to know that I do carry.

SemperFiGuy is right about the concealed carry laws.  However, and employer, including a school, can ban weapons from it's premises including employee's cars.

So, you wouldn't be guilty of a crime by keeping the gun in a locked compartment of a vehicle, but you could be fired if it is against the school's policy.

Wow, thanks Husker_Fan... didn't even think about looking at the handbook... I did after seeing your message, though.  Sure enough, the Lincoln Public Schools handbook forbids employees from having a weapon, even specifically in their private vehicle on school property.  Ugh.  Was hoping to join a league at the indoor range here in Lincoln... this will about double my drive time as I will have to go home and then across town to get there.

Is it a little strange that an entity that receives federal and state funds can write a rule that trumps law?
