Nance county self defense shooting
« on: February 15, 2011, 09:29:33 AM »
Guy 1 locks himself inside of house, guy 2 kicks in the door with a knife in hand, guy 1 ends guy 2.  Seems pretty clear cut to me, but I still want that castle doctrine.

Can someone tell me what a "7 mm Slug" is?

I am guessin' it'd be similar to the proverbial ".44 slug", only with a smaller diameter and weight...... though probably having a much greater sectional density ...... probably also having a cupro-nickel jacket, and very likely a velocity of 3 to 5 times that of the old fashioned ".44 slug"....

One  rifle capable of launching these "7mm slugs" is the 7mm STW.... which I have heard stands for "7mm Shoots Through Wyoming"........ though that may be incorrect.

Thanks for the reply... I was almost under the "impression" the article's writer knew something about firearms/ammunition.  Alas, typical dribble.....

Quote
No duty to retreat before using deadly force to prevent a felony in one's place of abode; no duty to retreat before using deadly force in self defense in one's place of abode. This isn't as clear as it appears, however. There are four cases in Minnesota where duty of retreat was upheld

according to wikipedia.

Just so you know this incident did happen in Nebraska (Nance County, near Belgrade) and not Minnesota. The deceased man was from Minnesota.

Per Wiki:
The 7 mm STW (Shooting Times Westerner) began as a wildcat rifle cartridge developed by Layne Simpson in 1979.[2] It is an 8 mm Remington Magnum case that has been "necked down" (narrowing the case opening) by 1 mm to accept 7 mm (.284 in) bullets. This cartridge is named after the magazine Shooting Times where Layne Simpson is a regular contributor

I assumed they meant a 7mm magnum round.

I know that..... I was just being silly.   Hard to simulate a redneck accent with a keyboard....  I have referred to the 7mm STW as the "7mm Shoots To Wisconsin" before, too.
