Obviously no promise of amnesty or what not, but just curious if there is any legit prohibition against some organization ( I can NOT imagine who) offering take any guns & ammunition someone wants to donate to a good home. I'm sure mostly crap gets turned in, but it would be fun, and I am also sure some decent if not valuable arms show up too. Thoughts?

I suppose so, but then the transactions would fall under the statutes that apply to firearms transactions between private individuals wouldn't they?

The possibility of receiving a stolen/used-in-a-crime firearm would not be a good thing in my eyes.

Simply turn the firearm over to the authorities if it where to come up stolen. Not certain, but aren't transactions between private individuals the responsibility of the individuals themselves? I've bought and sold privately and other than making a copy of the purchase permit and DL done nothing else.

How would you know?
gsd:
most law enforcement agencies will run the SN of a firearm if you ask them to. They may ask a small fee, but to verify the legality of the weapon is a couple bucks well spent.
