I'm not sure how to feel here. I can understand the bear defending it's cubs(isn't that why most of us carry and train for) but yet the victim(s) are made to look like the aggressors? I can only imagine what would have happend if Mr. or Mrs. Hiker would have pulled an Ruger Alaskan .454 Casull and shot the bear. I'd put money on it they would have been in deep doodoo. But hey they would both still be alive! And there would not be a bear in the park having now tasted human blood.
Is Yellowstone included in the parks we are ok to carry in?
Mudinyeri:
As I understand it, the hikers were warned against hiking the trail due to the fact that park rangers knew that a sow with cubs was in the area. They proceeded to hike the trail, nonetheless. Once it was determined that the sow did not feed on the man who was killed, the rangers decided to allow her to live.
Firearms are permitted in national parks. However, if one carries concealed, the appropriate permit(s) with reciprocity are required. Furthermore, discharging a weapon in a national park is illegal.
