An Alternate Look at Handgun Stopping Power

<< < (2/2)

bkoenig:
I think a good point from the article is the difference between a psychological stop and a physical stop.  Most people will just give up after being shot once.  But, for the few who will keep on going due to drugs/psychosis/just being a bada$$ I want something with a little more oomph.  I've carried my 9x18 also and I feel comfortable with it because it's reliable and uber accurate.  Most of the time I carry a .38 +P for a little more power.  But lately I've been going with a compact 9mm Luger when I can conceal it.  I love my airweight hammerless .38 because it's almost jam-proof and small enough to conceal under anything, but having 14+1 of 9mm is more comforting.

So, what I've found is that there's no one gun that suits all my carry needs.  I carry the .38 when running or biking, or when wearing clothes that won't conceal a larger gun.  Plus, I can just quickly throw it in my pocket for a quick run to the store.  When I have the opportunity to carry something bigger, I do.  If I could somehow legally and effectively conceal my 18.5" 870 I would.   ;D

In the end the best gun is one you will carry every day and can shoot well.  A high capacity 10mm is useless if it's sitting in the safe.

I'm old school.  I'll keep running the 45 and hope I never have to test it.  All handgun calibers suck as manstoppers.

AR's baby! AR's!  30 rounds of high velocity hurt.
